Introduction to Networking Part-2

Nitesh is in class 12th and preparing for the Engineering Entrance exam, he rushed out as last date for IIT/JEE exam came closer and still don’t able to fill the form for it. One thing that was thrashing him out how he will dispatch the form in one day and even speed post will take three days to deliver the form at destination. One more question running in his mind, how he fills the form fees to bank?
He seems to be in big trouble and share this entire thing to his friend Lokansh, who is a computer savvy!
Lokansh has suggested him to go for online submission options. He told Nitesh the Web Link for the IIT/JEE online form submission and tell the complete process and even helped to complete the online form.
When he reached at bank to fill the form, he ask the procedure from helpdesk representative and by just filling a form, he would be able to submit the fees. This is amazing how entering some details in a web form makes the payment; this is all just a click away!!!
After filling up the bank fee details, he went back to cyber café and made final submission process of form. This all process took three hours, which amazed him like anything.
He then thanked Lokansh and asks about, what makes this process so fast? Then, Lokansh tell him that it all about the magic of Networking.

Networking in short is just a system of communication with each other. How we can share our thoughts to other persons to accomplish some work, to share some information, enjoy some wonderful moments within a company of friends is all just can be considered as a part of networking.
If you are an owner of a computer hardware device company and wanted to sell your products across all parts of worlds then what first thing you require selling your product??????

It is your product marketing and how product will market it is with the help of network of friends, colleagues etc. If you have friends in every corner of world and in every city of world than those guys will help you to market your product in local retailers and your products will get good branding. So to share your product information, a people across the world will connect together and this is broadly called as NETWORKING and the means by which these people connect together are called as networking devices.

Technically, networking is a system of connecting computers together in order to share information.
In computer networks, networked computing devices pass data to each other along data connections. The connections (network links) between nodes are established using either cable media or wireless media. The best-known computer network is the Internet.
Network computer devices that originate, route and terminate the data are called network nodes.[1] Nodes can include hosts such as servers and personal computers, as well as networking hardware. Two devices are said to be networked when a device is able to exchange information with another device.Computer networks support applications such as access to the World Wide Web, shared use of application and storage servers, printers, and fax machines, and use of email and instant messaging applications.

Networks are broadly classified as Local Area Network (LAN), Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN).

Local Area Network (LAN) is the system of connected computers in a single building or locally. Computers connected via cables in a office, computer LAB, in a Bank, in LIC office etc are all considered as a part of Local Area Network.

Metropolitan Area Network(MAN) is a computer network in which two or more computers or communicating devices or networks which are geographically separated but in same metropolitan city and are connected to each other are said to be connected on MAN. Metropolitan limits are determined by local municipal corporations; the larger the city, the bigger the MAN, the smaller a metro city, smaller the MAN.

A wide area network (WAN) is a network that covers a broad area (i.e., any telecommunications network that links across metropolitan, regional, or national boundaries) using private or public network transports. Business and government entities utilize WANs to relay data among employees, clients, buyers, and suppliers from various geographical locations. In essence, this mode of telecommunication allows a business to effectively carry out its daily function regardless of location. The Internet can be considered a WAN as well, and is used by businesses, governments, organizations, and individuals for almost any purpose imaginable.

Now to establish a network, we need smart devices which can understand and interpret the information and present in desired format. Those devices are considered as Networking Devices. Computer, Laptops, Servers, IP Phones, Printers, Smart Phones, Switches, Routers, etc are some broadly classified network devices.
