Yesterday I have faced an issue that on a specific vlan, like we have Marketing-1 and Marketing-2 two vlan for Marketing department for providing vlan redundancy.Systems which are on Marketing-1 vlan will not be able to access Internet even though link is up, LAN card is also showing LED's and all is fine.
As a work around we change the port vlan from switch and internet starts working. But exact reason should be identified whether the vlan has hanged, traffic is not passing through the particular vlan from the juniper switch or some other issue.
So, Following were be the troubleshooting steps.
1. Check system IP by running IP config command.--found ok
2. Check ISP Link Status--found Ok
3. Check access switch and core switch connectivity by doing ping and traceroute.
when I was checking core switch connectivity by pinging the Core Switch, i got RTO. Then I understood that since I are not able to reach at default gateway for Internet. I need to check the same.
4. Then again I check the IP defauly gateway for the same vlan and found that default gateway was showing wrong.When i manually configured the default gateway, issue got resolved.
Now Since DHCP server is configured in my enterprise i verified the same with my server team and found issue at server end. Since automatically default gateway was configured andfor that particular vlan default gateway was wrongly configured.
When server team fix the issue, the over all Internet on a specific vlan issue get resolved.
